After a little more than one week, the generous citizens of Warwick fully met our $5,000 matching fund, and in fact went over the total. We’ll be distributing checks to the food pantries this week and will start planning a second phase of fundraising before long. We thank everyone who helped much this fundraising drive a success, and extend more heartfelt thanks to the people behind our local food pantries.
In response to the great need for supporting food pantries during the pandemic, Sustainable Warwick and Community2gether launched the Resilient Warwick Food Pantry Support Fund. We sought donations to the fund and set aside $5,000 to match those contributions.
On May 14th we distributed checks to the five local food pantries, as shown in the chart below. All of these food pantries participate in the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, which provided data on the number of meals these food pantries typically serve on a monthly basis. Those numbers helped us decide the fairest way to distribute our support to the food pantries.
